Notes From Peace Demonstrations, 5/5/12: John Fortier Peace Vigil

Last night, I joined John Fortier, a Korean War veteran, retired school teacher, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather for an hour in his peace vigil. John has held this vigil each Friday since just before President Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq in March, 2003. For me two things really stood out:

1) There have been more horn honks and waves of support the last few weeks than I have seen in the 2-3 years I've joined John during his vigil. This offers hope that an increasing number of people are troubled by the U.S.'s wars and want them ended.

2) A greenish SUV filled with people drove slowly by and as their horn of support was honked, they waved and called to John to let him know they care about his peace vigil.

But most touching for me was when I saw in that vehicle a little 4 year old tiny girl, from her safety seat in the back seat, heartily wave a two-fingered peace sign as her big smile beamed brightly. It said her parents value love for mankind and peace and are teaching her well.

Note, I estimated the age of this adorable tiny girl.
