Notes From Peace Demonstrations: Yet Again, Hell Breaks Out In Iraq

In Iraq on Tuesday (11/27/!2) the bloodbath continued as bombs exploded and 42 men, women and children were killed and 191 more were wounded. Two days later, it happened again, as 54 people were killed and 237 more were wounded. And this senseless violence is likely to keep happening.

This is what war does, it strips us of our humanity in bursts of anger and retaliation, even against those who have done nothing to warrant that retaliation. This time the primary targets were Shiite pilgrims, but the targets could be anybody once the madness begins.

Despite the horrific U.S. war they have just been through and all of its aftermath, the Iraqi people must find a basis for healing, much as was done in South Africa under Nelson Mandela in the 1990's. Otherwise they could easily sink into another civil war as is happening in neighboring Syria.

In benefits no-one to kill another, let alone killing a child. It benefits no-one to take the lives of that child's parents or parent, leaving that child an orphan, or without a breadwinner to put a roof overhead and food on the table. Iraq desperately needs compassion and forgiveness among its people and the prayers from you and me as as we recognize their suffering.

Dear Reader, please note that often the news does not tell us whether the dead and wounded were men, women or children. We just receive body counts. I've projected men, women and children being killed and wounded based upon the circumstances and the people who were indiscriminately targeted.
