The Tragedy In Iraq Continues To Grow

In a crack down on peaceful protests against the Iraqi government, at least 42 people were killed and 100 more were injured yesterday. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/24/world/middleeast/clashes-at-sunni-protest-site-in-iraq.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_20130424&_r=0

The situation in Iraq is deteriorating, as the inept government kept in power in the U.S.'s Green Zone shows little tolerance for protesters and an inability to consistently deliver essential services such as electricity, medical care, clean water and sewage treatment.

It would help considerably if the Iraq government would welcome a widespread dialogue among itself and its citizens, and help to give them the sense that their voice is heard and that it matters.

It is a revealing fact that as a result of the U.S. invasion and occupation, and the explosion of violence among various groups that became a part of that occupation, two million Iraqis fled their nation and few have returned to what President George W. Bush had termed "Operation Iraqi Freedom."

From the U.S.'s War, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi men, women and children were killed, numerous more were maimed and only God knows how many children were orphaned. The tragedy from that war just continues to grow as children with birth defects from the U.S. widespread use of arms and perhaps chemicals is manifesting itself.

We as mankind have been endowed by our Creator to do far better than this.
