As the Iraq War continues among Iraqis, an estimated 1207 people were killed and over 2400 were seriously wounded: http://news.antiwar.com/2013/09/01/august-toll-over-1200-killed-across-iraq-as-sectarian-violence-continues/ These are stunning numbers and they continue month after month at levels comparable to the death toll in 2007 at the peak of the U.S. involvement in the Iraq War.
There is no end in sight to this killing and it reminds all of us of the madness that war brings. Just imagine what it is like to struggle to live in a place in which you never know if your loved ones will become the next casualties of a never ending war.
A wise and compassionate government would bring the warring parties together to non-violently resolve their differences rather than be a participant in the continuation of the fighting. And as the world is now willing to do in Syria, the world too could become a peace maker in Iraq.
But to most of the world, the Iraq War is yesterday's problem and it has moved on as Iraqi mothers bury their children and the misery in Iraq continues.
