John Fortier Peace Vigil Comments, 9/5/13

Dear Reader, John Fortier has conducted a weekly peace vigil in Redondo Beach, California since just before President Bush launched the Iraq War in March, 2003. He is a Korean War veteran, a retired school teacher, and a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. The following are his brief comments from his latest peace vigil on 8/30/13:

I didn't even have to take notes last Friday to remember what happened. It was an exceptionally busy, interesting time, I felt I owed you one, and this is a good one.

You arrived after my first 'visitor', at five minutes to 4, threw me a big waving "V"

and smile from the back seat of of a passing car. Had I arrived 'on time' at 4, I would have missed that. It's that kind of nice little bonus I some times get before 4 or after 6

that makes me eager to get there and reluctant to leave.

The next visit was with a pair of young folks, a boy and a girl, both seventeen, he home-schooled and her a student at Banning. I saw them coming from 40 or 50 yards away on PCH, and I was pretty sure then that they were coming to see me, not just walk on by.

They walked right up and started talking, very politely, asking why, when, what, and who.

They might have been Indian (from India), but I try not to ask many questions because some people tend to not thrive when asked about stuff. I suspect they think they are being judged in some way.

To be continued.
