The Highest Honor

The highest honor that can be bestowed upon any military person anywhere in the world is to be held in high enough esteem and respect so as not to have his or her life squandered on unnecessary wars.

This is what it really means to "support our troops," a phrase often used but seldom practiced.

"Support our troops" also means to provide those in need with top quality medical care and assistance in re establishing their lives, and not to leave some of them homeless on the streets. 

In the U.S., a nation now in endless war, the care given to these deserving veterans is often a cruel mockery.

The underlying message is not to go to war, which only leads to extremist leaders and more war, but to find ways to  peacefully resolve our differences. This is the highest honor mankind can bestow upon itself.
