"These Colors Don't Run"

"These colors don't run" was the bumper sticker mentality promoted during the last U.S. War in Iraq (2003 - 2011) as that war was going so badly for the U.S.

These words were meant to compel the patriotism of the soldiers, those men and women who faced being killed or maimed in the Iraq War. They were also meant to intimidate those in the U.S. who called for an end to the bloodshed.

The words were promoted from the highest level of the U.S. Government in Washington, DC by people whose lives were in no risk from the war.

Now the U.S. is beginning yet another undeclared Iraq War, with the bombing already begun and the first of the troops already in place.

How many Iraqi men, women and children and U.S. soldiers must die in this war, a war most people not involved will soon forget as they move on with their lives?

"These colors don't run," said nothing about brotherhood, about mutual respect or communication or the other peaceful actions necessary to end the fighting.

Those words said nothing about all of us being brethren sharing a journey of life. They were simply a battle cry for more war and more heartache, and that battle cry is being answered.

I was awakened at about 2:13 this morning and reminded of these tragic words, "These colors don't run."
